Sneak peek: Excelsior Hotel revamp!

The iconic Excelsior Hotel, set in a highly desired location, which has long seduced visitors with its natural beauty and dramatic vistas of Dubrovnik, has for 100 years remained a timeless piece of Dubrovnik history that modern-day travellers can experience.

This beloved Dubrovnik landmark now begins a new chapter in its storied history, unveiling the final stage of interior refurbishment. In cooperation with a team of renowned Croatian architects and designers, the hotel will be home to iconic and historic stylish luxury, as one of the most prestigious Adriatic Luxury Hotels properties.

Each part of the hotel is a monument in its own right, showcasing the traditional essence of Dubrovnik hospitality whilst telling a range of stories that will inspire and intrigue guests and visitors.

The architecture and design studio BF, captures original, effortless elegance that beautifully emphasizes the historical elements while the interior design studio of Franić-Šekoranja created a concept that celebrates Excelsior’s traditional creative spirit while also embracing a modern experience that is both nostalgic and fashionable.

Modern custom furnishings complete the elegant and sophisticated design. Understated earthy tones of grey and walnut with touches of blue and green incorporate the colours found in the iconic surrounding of the city of Dubrovnik. The hotel is carefully designed with handcrafted, artisan-style décor: reclaimed woods, sleek, modern finishes and expansive windows framing unparalleled waterfront and city views. The interiors of each space have been designed to convey a dash of idiosyncratic wit that one would expect from such a storied property and yet bring an upscale experience to its guests. The result will be an innovative masterpiece of beautifully preserved history of the hotel and architectural design integrated with refreshing modern touches.

Upon refurbishment, the hotel will reveal 158 beautifully redecorated rooms and suites, a transformed lobby and a lavishly redesigned Abakus Piano Bar and Terrace.

ROOMS AND SUITES

Excelsior’s 158 contemporary, comfortable accommodations include 139 king-bedded rooms, and 19 luxury suites shared across the original 1913 section of the hotel Villa Odak and more modern part – The Tower.

Careful restoration of the residential part of the hotel – Villa Odak – has retained the aristocratic design details of the original 1913 building,

while technologies have been fully updated and modern luxuries added for today’s most discerning travellers. The modern, understated design sensibilities of the Franić-Šekoranja studio are here juxtaposed to the fully restored original early 20th century architecture.

The Tower’s impeccably designed guest rooms and suites are outfitted in soothing textural neutrals with dashes of Excelsior’s signature shade of warm grey enriched with vivid yellow and blue colours adding a fresh, modern and yet cosy atmosphere to relax in a lap of luxury.

Each room features a king or queen-size bed, and carefully selected details such as light oak floors, custom-crafted furniture, modern area rugs, double-weave wool bed throws and many more.

THE LOBBY

The hotel lobby is flooded with natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Warm wooden floors, custom-designed light fixtures and furniture embody a vintage charm with a uniquely modern, creative slant. At the centre of the lobby, running down through the hotel’s centre, is a dramatic and intricate stairwell, a visual experience of its own.

Meticulously curated objects greet guests at Excelsior as if walking through a gallery. In each area of the hotel, is displayed a bespoke piece of furniture, painting, sculpture or digital art-piece chosen specifically to frame the guest experience. Contrasting design elements throughout the hotel emphasize the synergistic balance of urban and natural elements.

The Abakus Piano Bar is the centrepiece of the hotel and a welcoming retreat of classic elegance.

It adds to the hotel’s unique aesthetic and fluid design – it welcomes guests throughout the day and evening to refresh themselves, meet friends, network or just relax. Open and warmly lit during the day, once the sun goes down, Abakus is transformed into an elegant restaurant and bar space making it the perfect spot to savour signature cocktails or snacks before venturing into the Dubrovnik night.

As per the designers’ vision, the entire future bar space is conceptualized as a series of living rooms with various  complementary styles in order to emphasize the two moods  of the space and the hotel itself. To further accentuate this fusion, the furniture and decorative lighting at the bar will be a mixture of styles from different design periods – with accents of classic antique, modernist and contemporary styles.

With its prestigious location, just steps from the UNESCO Old City of Dubrovnik, Hotel Excelsior will be ready to show its revamped grandeur in the spring of 2017, as one of the most lavish hotels on the Adriatic.
